Lust for Life Social Media Promotion

Lana Del Rey released her fourth studio album titled “Lust for Life” last week, and it has not disappointed fans. It delivers her signature sound, gloomy vocals, lush instrumentals and the trap beats we saw featured on some tracks from her last album “Honeymoon”. Del Rey has had a rollercoaster of an experience in the eyes of both the public and critics. When her first album “Born to Die” was released, she faced criticism saying that she was not genuine. It has been interesting to see how she has used her social media presence to maintain a consistent and organic image, which I believe has contributed to the decline in this particular criticism.

Del Rey frequently uses Instagram live to promote herself in a natural way. Del Reys team has also implemented ads for her new album in between users instagram stories (pictured). She often goes live simply while driving in the car and singing along to either a nostalgic rock song or a clip of her own music. However, she has also utilized this live video to do things like alert her fans to news like a new music video or even calling fans after they posted their phone numbers on Twitter.

She is also very active on her Twitter account. She frequently publishes the same posts she does on Instagram, adapted to the Twitter format. She often frequently retweets from brands selling her products, like Urban Outfitters. Del Rey is smart to use this social media to connect with fans by often replying directly to them and favoriting their tweets, helping to retain her followers.

Unsurprisingly, this hip artist does not seem to be posting original content on her Facebook page, simply reposting things from Instagram and Twitter. This may be due to the fact that Facebook can be seen as uncool by Lana’s younger, hipster-esque fanbase.

As the Billboard 200 chart of albums will be released today, we will see if this social media campaign has paid off. Will she get the coveted number one spot on this chart, up against Meek Mill and Tyler, The Creator?
